how punch needle works

A calm, repetitive craft anyone can pick up. Here's what you'll actually be doing.

  1. Insert the wire threader

    Push the wire loop into the needle tube through the hole at the tip.

  2. Thread your yarn

    The wire loop comes out the other end of the needle; pass your yarn through it.

  3. Pull it through

    Grab the end of the wire and pull it back out of the needle, drawing the yarn through with it.

  4. Check the threading

    The needle is now threaded, with the yarn running through the tube and out the tip, ready to punch.

  5. Punch into the fabric

    Point the slanted tip (the bevel) forward and push the needle all the way down through the fabric until the handle meets it.

  6. Complete the punch

    Lift the needle back out and glide to the next spot to punch again. Each punch leaves a soft loop, building the tufted texture.
